Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments are a safe and noninvasive procedure used to relieve pain and restore or improve mobility. Learning the art of adjusting is a skill that requires years of study and practice. Chiropractic doctors are the only health care professionals trained to deliver the chiropractic adjustment. Spinal adjustments by any other individual or health care professional have been shown to be dangerous and less effective.

Spinal Adjustments

Spinal adjustment or spinal manipulation refers to the process in which a doctor of chiropractic skillfully applies controlled force into one or more "subluxated" vertebrae of the spine. The adjustment is also frequently used in the pelvic region to normalize the sacroiliac joints. The adjustment is usually delivered using the hands or through the use of a specialized mechanical tool.

Spinal adjustments are applied to specific vertebrae of the spine which are no longer in their proper position, or where they have become functionally impaired. Vertebrae which lose their proper position or normal motion are commonly referred to as vertebral subluxations. Chiropractors utilize several diagnostic tests and procedures to determine which, if any, vertebrae are subluxated. If subluxations are found, immediate correction is generally recommended. Much like cavities are in teeth, subluxations are not always painful during the initial stages, even those who are not actively experiencing neck or back discomfort should receive periodic spinal checkups.

Other Adjustments

In addition to adjusting the spine and pelvis, almost every other joint of the body can be adjusted by a chiropractor. This includes the joints found in the hands and feet, wrists and ankles, elbows and knees, shoulders and hips, ribs and the jaw.

Like the joints of the spine, joints in the extremities can also become misaligned and fixated. Chiropractic adjustment techniques can restore and enhance extremity joint functioning, which can extend the life of the joint and keep wear and tear to a minimum. This is particularly valuable to athletes who generally demand optimal joint performance from highly stressed joints. Chiropractic adjustments provides an immediate increase in a joint’s range of motion and supplies the joint with nutrients, as motion is the only way to bring nutrients into the joint cartilage and flush waste products out.

Soft Tissue Manipulation

Tissue in our bodies that connect, support, or surround our internal organs and bones are generally referred to as ”soft tissues.” These include fascia, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Soft tissue injuries can be caused by trauma and come on suddenly, or injuries can be a response to overuse. Soft tissue injuries can be mild, moderate, or cause severe pain. Swelling, stiffness and/or bruising can all be associated with soft tissue injuries. When soft tissue is aggravated, adhesions are formed by your body, as a way of dealing with the source of pain. If you are experiencing pain caused by soft tissue injury, you may benefit from soft tissue manipulations.

Deep Tissue Massage

A deep tissue massage is a type of therapy that uses firm pressure and low strokes to massage deep muscle layers and fascia, the connective tissue surrounding your muscles. When the massage begins, the physician starts with lighter pressure to warm up your muscles and then works into deeper pressure progressively. The muscle adhesions, which are bands of painful, rigid muscles, are broken down. With the adhesions broken down, circulation is allowed, reducing the inflammation, pain and tension in your muscle and tissue.

Benefits Include:
  • Pain relief
  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Headache relief
  • Relieve muscle soreness and muscle fatigue
  • Increased range of motion

Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy is a tissue therapy that utilizes special “cups”, which create suction in specific areas of the body. This suction helps to increase blood flow, reduce pain, and lessen deep tissue inflammation within the body.

The skin is your body’s largest organ. Toxins in the body will often float around in the layers of the skin and deep tissue. Cupping Therapy is used to pull the unhealthy toxins closer to the surface, allowing oxygen and healthy blood flow to the necessary areas. This allows the toxins to be flushed out through the lymphatic system, kidneys, and liver.

Benefits Include:
  • Pain relief
  • Reduce muscle cramping and spasms
  • Release toxins within the deep tissue of the body
  • Increased bloodflow in affected areas

Scraping Therapy

Scraping therapy helps to stimulate your soft tissue, which helps improve the healing of your injury. When soft tissue is injured, blood flow can be negatively impacted. Blood can become stagnant and create an environment more susceptible to disease or further injury. Scraping helps break up scar tissue, smooth out connective tissue, encourage blood flow, and promote better movement of the joints and muscles

There are many different tools a chiropractor may use during scraping therapies. During your scraping therapy, your physician will use a tool to gently “scrape” back and forth over the affected area. This helps to reduce soft tissue and muscle restrictions. Scraping can be very helpful to patients that have scar tissue, fascia restrictions, and strained muscles.

Benefits Include:
  • Pain relief in affected area
  • Increased range of motion
  • Reduced swelling in affected area
  • Release toxins within the deep tissue of the body
  • Breakdown of adhesion build up

stemwave Treatment

What is it?

Without getting too technical, StemWave is an FDA listed medical device that utilizes harmless, yet powerful acoustic waves to activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. This non-invasive treatment option was designed to help patients dealing with musculoskeletal conditions related to pain and inflammation.

Benefits Include:
  • Non-Invasive & Drug-Free
  • Promotes Natural Healing
  • Decreases Inflammation
  • Increases Circulation
  • Alleviates Aches & Pains
  • 5-10 Minute Treatments
  • No Recovery Time
  • No Negative Side Effects

How Does It Work?

When these waves penetrate damaged tissue or areas of inflammation, it activates a natural response within the body as if a new injury has occurred. This immediately kickstarts the biological healing process by sending healing agents to help reduce inflammation and repair damaged tissue in the injured area. Ultimately, the goal of this treatment is to “awaken” dormant cells that are critical for healing – without the need for invasive procedures or medication. Stemwave technology achieves this by stimulating angiogenesis (the process by which new blood vessels are formed). Additional blood vessels supply the affected area, rapidly improving the healing process.

Does Treatment Hurt?

When we are trying to identify damaged tissue or inflammation, we will move the treatment source around the injured area. When the waves from the treatment source penetrate healthy tissue, you won’t feel much of anything. However, when the waves hit damaged tissue, you will experience manageable pain or discomfort – but not of intensity that requires numbing cream or anesthetic.

What to Expect:

The First Visit - Consultation & Treatment

Our doctor will conduct an interactive consultation to discuss more about StemWave, your goals, and expectations regarding your specific case. At the start of the treatment, we utilize the device as a diagnostic tool over the injured area to identify the primary location(s) of pain. Once located, we focus the remainder of treatment towards that area to ensure we maximize the positive biological effects. The treatment itself can be conducted in less than 10 minutes.

Additional Visits - Treatment Plans

Although some patients feel immediate improvement after their first visit, this is not a “one and done” treatment solution. Subsequent treatments are required to further the process of healing and achieve lasting results. Based on your specific goals & expectations provided, our doctor will put together a recommended care plan that best suits your needs. Care plans commonly range between 8-12 sessions. Patients typically experience significant progress after 3-4 treatments, however, we often see a noticeable improvement after the first treatment. Subsequent treatments that follow will offer continual improvement and sustained results.

Prenatal Care

There are many hormonal and physical changes you will experience during your pregnancy. Some of these will have an impact on your posture and comfort. As your baby becomes heavier, your center of gravity shifts, and your posture adjusts accordingly. These physical changes during your pregnancy can lead to a misaligned spine or joints.

Other uncomfortable changes during pregnancy might include:
  • Protruding abdomen resulting in an increased curve of your back
  • Adaptations to your posture
  • Changes to your pelvis as your body begins to prepare for labor

Regular visits to a chiropractor during your pregnancy can address these issues.

Collaborative chiropractic and medical studies have shown that 75 percent of pregnant chiropractic care patients reported pain relief.
Our doctors can perform safe and gentle chiropractic adjustments that can provide the following benefits:
  • Maintain a healthier, more comfortable pregnancy
  • Control symptoms of nausea
  • Pain relief in the back, neck, hips, and joints
